What Is the Difference Between RGB and RGBW?

RGB strip LED and LED bulbs is used in applications where colorful lighting required. RGB LEDs can be customized and have wide range of color. The new and powerful competitor of RGB LEDs is RGB+W LEDs. White LED chis added to RGB (Red, Green, Blue) mix. Therefore, RGB+W LEDs created.

Standard RGB LEDs consist of red, green, and blue chips. Different colors are obtained by mixing the light produced by three separate chips in certain proportions. If all three LEDs illuminate at full brightness white color obtained.

Beside the red, green, and blue LED chips, there is a white LED chip in RGBW LEDs. Although, RGB LEDs create a color close to white, it cannot create a pure white tone. An extra white LED chip allows to obtain more real and more bright white light.

RGB and RGBW LED strips can be easily recognized by the connectors on them. There are 4 pins on RGB LED strips and there are 5 pins on RGBW LED Strips.

There are four outputs controller used for RGB lighting equipment, there are five outputs controller used in RGBW equipment. It is not possible to use the RGBW light sources with RGB controllers.

The mounting of RGB and RGBW is not different from each other. It is not complicated to mounting and first operating the RGBW systems when used the right controller. However, RGBW can be complicated regarding controlling because it contains extra functions.

RGBW strip LEDs an LED bulbs are expensive than the RGB alternatives. But they are more flexible and talented products.

It is necessary to think about the application if you want to choose between RGB and RGBW. Using RGB is sufficient for colorful decorative lighting or secret light band is required. RGBW will be the right choice for task lighting that requires bright white.

According to the chip kind that added to RGB chips some abbreviations can be used such as; RGBWW (RGB+ warm white), RGBCW (RGB+Cold White), RGBNW (RGB+Notr White).
